The Festival Calendar

Three great festivals anchor the Kalash year — spring renewal, summer harvest and the sacred winter solstice. Birir’s Phool celebration is told in full on our blog.

02 · Birir’s Own Celebration

The Phool Festival

Phool Festival celebrations in Birir Valley

Beyond the three great festivals, Birir celebrates Phool — a joyful flower and harvest celebration among vineyards and walnut groves, in the same late-summer season as Uchal (20–24 August).

  • Flowers, dance and harvest thanksgiving
  • The most local, least staged celebration of the year
  • Told in full, with photographs, on our blog
